Future Wave
Redesign, Responsive Web, New Feature
Project Overview
The CEO reached out to me asking to create an app that would serve as a family capsule for families to collect and preserve their most cherished memories in a single place. The app would offer different types of media for capturing memories, such as photos, videos, text, and audio recordings. Users could add captions or tags to make it easier to organize and find specific memories later on.

Challenges
  • Designing for multiple user types: A family capsule app would likely have users of all ages and technical abilities, so you would need to design an interface that is intuitive and easy to use for everyone. This could be a challenge, as different age groups may have different preferences and requirements.
  • Managing privacy and permissions: With a family capsule app, there may be some memories that certain family members don't want to share with others. As a UX designer, you would need to create a system of permissions that allows users to control who sees what content and ensure that sensitive information is kept private.
  • Creating a cohesive brand and visual identity: A family capsule app should feel warm, welcoming, and familial, so designing a cohesive brand and visual identity that conveys this could be a challenge.
  • Balancing functionality and simplicity: While a family capsule app would need to offer a wide range of features for capturing and organizing memories, it's important to balance this with simplicity and ease of use. The app should not be overwhelming or confusing to navigate, especially for users who may not be tech-savvy.
  • Ensuring the app is accessible: As with any app, it's important to ensure that the family capsule app is accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. This could require additional design considerations and testing to ensure that the app is usable for everyone.
Solutions
  • Conduct thorough user research: To create an app that truly meets the needs of families, it's essential to conduct thorough user research. This might include surveys, interviews, focus groups, or usability testing with target users. By understanding users' needs, pain points, and desires, you can design an app that addresses those needs and resonates with users.
  • Simplify the interface: Since your app will likely be used by people of all ages and technological skill levels, it's important to keep the interface as simple and intuitive as possible. Avoid clutter, use clear language and icons, and focus on creating a seamless user experience that makes it easy for users to accomplish their goals.
  • Use visual design to evoke emotions: Since memories are inherently emotional, it's important to use visual design to create an emotional connection with users. Use colors, typography, and imagery that evoke positive emotions and create a warm, inviting atmosphere within the app.
  • Test, iterate, and refine: As you design and develop the app, it's important to continually test and iterate based on user feedback. Conduct regular usability tests to identify areas where users may be struggling or experiencing frustration, and use that feedback to refine the app and make it more user-friendly.
  • Provide clear onboarding and support: Since your app may be used by people who are not technologically savvy, it's important to provide clear onboarding and support resources to help users get started and troubleshoot any issues they may encounter. This might include tutorials, help documentation, or even in-app chat support.
